01 / General planning

General planningfor ice sports facilities.

One project. One integrated planning responsibility.

ICERINKS provides general planning for ice sports facilities and coordinates all relevant disciplines within one integrated project structure. Architecture, structural design, ice technology, building services, energy systems, controls, infrastructure and operational requirements are developed as one coordinated system.

Architecture. Ice technology. Building services. Energy. Controls. One integrated planning responsibility.

Competence hierarchy

  1. 01

    General planning

Overall planning, interface management and coordination of all specialist disciplines.

  2. 02

    Ice & energy engineering

Ice technology, refrigeration, heat recovery, storage, photovoltaics and sector coupling.

  3. 03

    Integrated control & system optimisation

Continuous coordination of all systems for stable and energy-efficient operation.

We steer the interfaces, bring the specialist disciplines together and secure one coordinated overall system.

The objective is a technically coherent, buildable and operationally efficient ice sports facility — from the first concept through planning, implementation and commissioning.

General planning brings all specialist disciplines together. Ice, energy and control competence is the technical depth ICERINKS adds to it.

02 / What we deliver

From the idea and feasibility studyto commissioning.

ICERINKS brings architecture, ice technology, building services and energy systems together in one general planning responsibility. All disciplines are planned as one coupled system — in design, technically, economically and over the full lifecycle.

Every project starts with the physics of ice and the quality of the building — and ends with an operating concept in which investment cost and operating cost have been designed together.

03 / Modular system

A modular systemfor ice sports facilities.

Every ice sports facility places different demands on location, use, capacity and energy supply. Our modular system combines proven technical components into an individually matched overall solution.

Building, ice surface, refrigeration and heat technology, energy supply, storage, photovoltaics and controls are combined and coordinated on a project-specific basis. The result: scalable ice sports facilities that adapt functionally, technically and economically to the specific requirement.

05 / ICERINKS Clean

Not an isolated consumer. An intelligent energy hub.

An ice sports facility should not be designed as an isolated energy consumer. We integrate refrigeration, heat recovery, heat pumps, photovoltaics, storage and grid interaction into one coordinated energy system.

Every ice sports facility requires a project-specific energy and engineering concept. We therefore present the principles — not standardised solutions.

Parallel, coupled energy flows — not a linear chain

01

Cooling
The refrigeration plant supplies the ice surface and produces usable waste heat at the same time.

02

Heat
Heat recovery supplies heat storage, the building, hot water and possible external offtakers.

03

Power
Photovoltaics, grid and battery storage supply the refrigeration plant, heat pump and building services.

04

Control
Integrated Control coordinates all systems based on ice quality, use, climate, energy availability and plant condition.

Five technical layers

Ice technology
Refrigeration, ice slab build-up, water treatment, dehumidification, snow pit and ice preparation.
Energy
Heat recovery, heat pumps, photovoltaics, storage and load management.
Sector coupling
Cooling, heat, power, building and grid connected into one operating system.
Building
Architecture, building envelope, building services and operating strategy.
Operation
Monitoring, continuous optimisation and lifecycle cost transparency.
  • Waste heat is a design input, not a by-product.
  • Natural and future-proof refrigerants.
  • Monitoring from day one — operation is verified, not assumed.
  • Operational optimisation is continuously verified by measurement.

Positioning

Architecture + Ice technology + Energy engineering + Sector coupling + Integrated engineering

One partner. One system. An architecturally high-quality ice sports facility as an intelligent energy hub.

High-performance architecture meets intelligent energy engineering.

06 / Integrated Control

All systems.One operating strategy.

Optimal operating conditions. Minimum energy input.

The efficiency of an ice sports facility is not created by individual components, but by their precise interaction. As general planner, ICERINKS coordinates and optimises the relevant operating parameters of refrigeration, heat recovery, heating, ventilation, photovoltaics, storage and building operation as one overall system — part of the planning and operating strategy, not a separate software product.

Coordinated systems

REFRIGERATIONHEATRECOVERYHEATING/VENTILATIONPHOTOVOLTAICSSTORAGEBUILDINGOPERATIONINTEGRATED CONTROL & OPTIMISATION

The objective: maintain the optimal operating condition at all times with the lowest possible energy input.

Operating conditions are continuously balanced against actual demand — ice quality, indoor climate, occupancy, ambient conditions, energy availability and plant behaviour.

Maximum operational stability. Minimum unnecessary energy consumption.

How we call it

  • Integrated Control
  • System Coordination
  • Continuous Optimisation
  • Operating Point Optimisation
  • Integrated Energy Management

Show the orchestration — not the algorithm. We communicate principle, system context and benefit; no setpoints, no control algorithms, no project-specific control schemes.

07 / Sector coupling

From energy consumerto intelligent energy hub.

Whenever refrigeration is required, usable heat is generated at the same time. Sector coupling means that cooling, heat, power, storage, building and grid are not designed separately, but as one connected system. Recoverable heat is utilised wherever it is technically and economically meaningful.

COOLINGHEATPOWERSTORAGEBUILDINGGRIDICE SPORTS FACILITY
Cooling
Efficient ice production and refrigeration as the base load of the system.
Heat
Recovered waste heat for the building, domestic hot water or external consumers.
Power
Photovoltaics, grid supply and intelligent load management.
Storage
Thermal and electrical storage to decouple demand and generation.
Building
Low-temperature heating, ventilation, dehumidification and building automation.
Grid
Grid integration / Grid2Ice and flexible operating strategies.

Energy hub is a design objective, not an automatic property: how far a facility feeds heat or flexibility back into its surroundings is defined project by project and verified technically.

13 / Financing

Financing withmunicipal guarantee.

Grid2Ice — One Partner. One Responsibility. From Vision to Operation.

Grid2Ice can accompany municipalities as a single point of contact — from the initial project idea through to the ongoing operation of the facility. The concrete scope is defined individually per project.

Where a municipality or city provides a guarantee, letter of support or comparable security, financing for the overall project can be structured and organised together with financing partners. Depending on the project this can reduce initial public investment and speed up implementation. This is a possible structuring model, not a financing commitment.

Our scope of services

  • Project development and feasibility studies
  • Planning and approval procedures
  • Financing concept and investor structure
  • Construction of the plant
  • Commissioning and optimisation
  • Technical and commercial operations management
  • Long-term support and performance monitoring

The municipality receives a single point of contact over the entire project lifecycle and benefits from predictable costs, high implementation certainty and minimised interface risks.

With a municipal guarantee, projects can be structured as an integrated overall model — from development through financing to long-term operation, subject to individual review.

Our approach

You provide the long-term security — we coordinate development, financing structuring, construction and operation with the appropriate partners.

This can enable larger infrastructure projects such as low-emission ice sports facilities, energy centres or sector-coupled sports venues to be implemented with a reduced equity contribution from the municipality.

Grid2Ice — One Partner. One Responsibility. From Vision to Operation.

Non-binding information. Roles, contracting parties, financing partners, approvals and legal prerequisites are assessed individually for each project. No financing commitment, no banking or investment advice.
